85560 - Robotic Surgery of The Kidney

Academic Year 2023/2024

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Single cycle degree programme (LMCU) in Medicine and Surgery (cod. 8415)

Learning outcomes

The objectives of the course are improving the theoretical and practical knowledge about prostate, kidney and bladder cancers focusing on the most innovative aspects of robotic surgical approaches (robotic radical prostatectomy, robotic partial nephrectomy, robotic radical cystectomy with intracorporeal urinary diversion)

The robotic approach to the genito-urinary malformation of the upper urinary tract will be extensively discussed and showed by surgical videos

Course contents

The program of the course is based on the discussion of the management of small renal masses , including epidemiology, diagnosis, active surveillance and robotic surgical resetion with particular focus on different techniques of conservative surgery (enucleation/tumorectomy, enucleoresection, eminephrectomy, different techniques aimed to suture the renal parenchima and calices), renal ischemia techniques (clampless, totally clampless, early ischemia) and prevention and management of surgical complication.

Many videos of robotic surgery with the most modern surgical techniques (namely, the use of fluorescence, selective clamping of renal artery, preoperative reconstruction and 3D print of anatomic models, augmented reality) would be showed.

Readings/Bibliography

powerpoints and surgical videos will be available for the students

Teaching methods

Frontal lessons will take place at Aula Corrado, Pad 1 Policlinico Sant'Orsola- Malpighi, with powerpoint and didactical videos of the surgical procedures

Students will have the opportunity to assist to robotic surgery directly in operating room at Nuove Patologie Pad 5 second floor Piastra B (policlinico Sant'Orsola-Malpighi) and at Padiglione 1 via Palagi 9.
