Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will acquire the fundamental knowledges in the field of medical virology. The student also has knowledge about the human defense mechanisms against viruses and about antiviral drugs.

Course contents

General characteristics of viruses, pathogenesis of infection and replicative mechanisms, general principles of virological diagnosis, antiviral drugs, vaccines, oncogenic viruses, hepatitis viruses, herpes viruses, orthomyxovirus, paramyxovirus, coronavirus, picornavirus, papillomavirus, retrovirus, arbovirus

Assessment methods

The exam consists of an oral examination with specific questions about the topics covered during the lectures. The exam includes two questions. The grade contributes to the final grade of the integrated course.

Teaching tools

In-class lectures will be supported by slides. Slides will be available online at the beginning of each lecture on Virtuale platform
