Learning outcomes
The student will become acquainted with either linguistic and/or philological and/or historical and/or artistic themes and problems.
Course contents
Seminar for reading, comprehension, and translation of Greek texts of the archaic down to imperial age. Attendance and participation is essential.
Readings/Bibliography
The students will receive the texts as copies at each lesson. During the seminar they will be informed about the bibliography on authors and texts. These are recommended: 1. C. Neri (et all.), Μέθοδος. Corso di lingua e cultura greca. Grammatica, Firenze, D’Anna, 2018; 2. R. Pierini, R. Tosi, Capire il greco, Bologna (Pàtron Editore) 2014.
Teaching methods
The students will translate the texts either in group during the lessons or individually as homework. The latter translations will be checked during the following lessons. During each lesson, the work consists of: 1. the analysis of the text transalted as homework; 2. the analysis of a new text. Translation aims at a linguistic and stylistic comprehension of the texts (language, morphology, syntax), so the seminar will make the students able to read Greek literary texts and understand their peculariarities.
Assessment methods
Ongoing tests: learning will be checked during the lessons.
Self-assessment: the students will be able to assess themselves during the seminar.
Conclusive examination: oral interview with eligibility. The student will translate a text never translated earlier during the seminar and understand the syntax and the more frequent words.
