Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student acquires the necessary knowledge to practice manual lymphatic drainage and is able to perform basic manual skills through simulated activities.

Course contents

Program:

-Lymphatic circulation (anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system)

-Starling balance

local and diffuse edema

- Lymphedema pathology: staging, classification, type of lymphedema, diagnostic tools, measurement technique and complications.

- Manual Lymphatic Drainage:

-Indications and contraindications
- Integrative therapies to DLM: physical therapies, pressotherapy, diet,

-The elastic compression bandage (practical demonstration)

-Sheaths: composition and their use

-Practical part which involves the treatment of superficial and deep lymph nodes of:

- Lymphatic chains of the neck;

- chest and back

- lumbar and buttock area

Upper limb in the presence or absence of axillary lymph nodes (post-mastectomy)

Lower limb in presence or absence of inguinal or pelvic lymph nodes

- Practise .
