Learning outcomes

At the end of the module the student: - knows the demographic data of the Italian population and the general international indications in the geriatric field, of ethical and welfare value; - will know the methodological basis of clinical reasoning for diagnosing major geriatric syndromes, slow-evolving systemic diseases and comorbidities; - will know how to apply the principles of differential diagnostics and prognosis to the patient for diseases and syndromes of greater severity and prevalence in the elderly in our country; - knows how to frame the state of health of the old, understood as a person, as a sick person and as a subject inserted in specific contexts (home, hospital, retirement home, RSA); - will know how to integrate the management strategies of the elderly patient using all the available territorial and hospital resources, both human and technological; - knows how to communicate with the elderly patient, with his relatives and with health professionals, in particular on the subject of death, suffering and decay; - knows indications and contraindications of the main diagnostic and therapeutic acts, including invasive ones, in adults, the elderly and the over-octogenarian; - will know how to set up therapeutic programs, also aimed at prevention and rehabilitation, for the most frequent geriatric syndromes according to international guidelines; - will know how to use the main means of e-care, telemedicine, e-health, computerized medical records, etc. that can be used in geriatric medicine from a theoretical point of view.
