Learning outcomes

At the end of the module the student knows and understands the cultural phenomena of contemporary society, recognizes the family structures, their inner cultural and communicative aspects as well as the outer relations with the outside, and in particular, the prejudice, the stigma and the Stereotype.

Course contents

In relation to the specific goals of the sociological discipline and to the purposes of the MA in Logopedics, the module aims to provide theoretical issues in order to consolidate communication and relationship skills with the client and his family (within an increasingly multicultural and globalized society), for an active listening and for a management of the relational dynamics of everyday life. The module particularly tackles the socio-cultural identity, the prejudice, and the stigma question from two perspectives: (1) Goffman's contribution grasps, interprets and understands, under a very thick sociological meaning, the phenomena of the "stigmatized ones" marginalization within the frame of everyday life interaction ; (2) Belardinelli's interpretation provides in "linguistic" terms the question of some main issues like the relationship to the "other", the pluralism of cultures, and the intercultural dialogue.
