Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student: - has the knowledge to understand the fundamental structure of the Internet as a packet-switched network and the main services offered by the World Wide Web such as e-mail, instant messaging, remote connections, the evolution of social network services or Web2, the processes of searching for information on the Web; - also has basic knowledge on the use of spreadsheets (operations, functions, graphics), and database management (construction of tables, reports, masks, and queries).

Course contents

The primary objective of the laboratory is to stimulate a reflection on the use of new media (and multimedia production) for teaching.

The laboratory will include with various topics, such as video games (educational and non-educational), programming, tinkering and e-learning. During the lessons the topics will be explored on a theoretical and practical level, providing sufficient skills to get first hand on these tools and to develop a (class level) dialogue on their potential in the didactic field.

The materials used in the course will be provided during the lessons in digital format.

Teaching methods

The laboratory includes both theoretical and practical parts; in both cases students will be asked to participate and they will be invited to carry out various group activities.

Assessment methods

During the workshop students will be asked to develop (preferably in groups) a design project concerning video games, tinkering and/or e-learning applied to teaching.

At the end of the laboratory, the evaluation will be expressed as idoneity, assessed on the basis of the frequency, participation in the activities and the quality of the final project.

Teaching tools

The activities will require the use of a computer.
