66876 - Linear Algebra

Academic Year 2018/2019

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Information Science for Management (cod. 8014)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, the student understands the basic concepts of linear algebra: he is able to solve linear systems, reason on vector spaces (concept of linear independence, subspace, basis and dimension) and on matrices (multiplication rows by columns, inverse); he is acquainted with linear maps, eigenvalues and eigenvectors,

Course contents

Linear systems (I). Vector spaces; linear independence; bases and dimension. Linear maps; determinant and inverse. Linear systems (II). Change of basis; eigenvalues and eigenvectors.

Every week, I'll give a set of exercises, that will be corrected by a tutor.

Readings/Bibliography

For the theory: online lecture notes that I will publish weekly on my personal web page.

For exercises: Introduzione all'algebra lineare, R. Fioresi, M. Morigi, edizioni CEA.

Teaching methods

Lectures.

Assessment methods

Written and oral exams.

The written exam aims at verifying the ability of solving various problems, akin to those assigned during the course. it lasts 2 hours; it is forbidden to use books, notes or calculators; only paper and pen.

The oral exam aims at verifying the knowledge of the theory developed during the course. Il lasts about half an our.
