Learning outcomes
At the end of this module, the student has a general knowledge of the gross anatomy of the major organs of the human body, but knows in detail the microscopic anatomy of the organs of several systems, which is essential to understand the mechanisms that regulate their function. The student is also able to recognize the organs starting from normal anatomical specimens.
Course contents
General Aspects. Anatomical terminology. Plans and axes of the human body.
Locomotor Apparatus. Overview of the spine, chest, pelvis, upper limb, lower limb. Generalities on the joints.
Cardiovascular System. Heart and pericardium. Small and large circulation. Coronary arteries. Generalities on the course of the aorta artery and of the vena cava.
Lymphatic System. Organization.
Respiratory System. Overview of nasal cavities, larynx, trachea and bronchi. Lungs and pleura.

Teaching methods
Lectures with extensive use of plastic models of different organs.
In the laboratory the student will acquire the skills needed for the preparation of slides for light microscopy, acquire the capability to recognize the different microscopic slides, and understand, by means of dissection, the macroscopic organization of some pig organs.
Assessment methods
Oral examination including the discussion of a microscope slide
Teaching tools
PC and video projector.
Optical microscopes and microscopic slides.
Animal organs to be dissected.
