  • Credits: 12
  • SSD: ICAR/17
  • Language: Italian
  • Moduli: Luca Cipriani (Modulo 1) Fabio Remondino (Modulo 2)
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures (Modulo 1) Traditional lectures (Modulo 2)
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Single cycle degree programme (LMCU) in Architecture and Building Engineering (cod. 0940)

Learning outcomes

The architectural drawing as a graphic language aimed at the study, analysis and production
of the architectural project, from its conception to its execution. providing the  fundamental elements for a correct and complete description of the object under survey and of its components, with a view to its exhaustive and articulated representation; developing the knowledge of survey techniques and its representation, included techniques relating to the new digital instrumentation.

Course contents

 SUBJECT MATTER OF LECTURES delivered during the course:

−          Introduction to the course, presentation of its structure and aims, assessment methods and examination norms;

−          General problems and principles of survey; survey objectives; survey in relation to its objectives;

−          Eidotipi of visual survey. Methods of survey extracting, measurement units;

−          Direct survey; eidiotipi; basic measuring methods; error theory; measures and instruments;

−          Photography and surveying; photography as an auxiliary means in survey opeerations; photoraphy and documentation; signals of photogrammetry: obtaining perspective from photography, distortion elimination, graphic formats and halftone image eleboration, treatment of images;

−          Distortion elimination: concepts and ways of applying software. Obtaining orthophotomaps by tiling corrected photos; treatment of the images to render the texture of the material;

−          Photomodelling

−          Architettural orders

−          Graphic analysis of architecture

−          Construction details.

Laboratory activities will focus on digital drawing, especially on the geometric methods of constructing models. The following topics will be discussed and practised here:

−          Vectorial two-dimensional graphics: general principles, functions within the interactive drawing system  (functions of elementary photo graphitization, functions of geometric transformation, functions of graphic input), graphics – user interface, inking and painting, user-system interface, segmented display and file, clipping and windowing, the concept of layer, the concept of group, vectorial drawing formats, interchange formats. The use of mixed raster (halftone)-vector systems. Printing of the work to be delivered.

3D modelling.

Application: Autodesk AUTOCAD

Teaching methods

The course is developed through frontal lessons and studio assignments.

Field practices are aimed at providing a direct experience of survey methods and tools and a specific documentation on the theme chosen.

Group and
individual work will be aimed at the use of tools for the indirect survey (group work) and the direct survey (individual group) and at the representation - at the proper scales - of an architectural building or of one of its parts, with previous large analysis and sketched documentation
collected in a special personal exercise-book including study preliminary surveys, measurement notes and any graphic notes taken during inspections, measurements and practices.

Assessment methods

  Less of studio assignments with a positive grade: students will be requested to pass a graphic test, to present a portfolio of the studio assignments and special assignments too; an interview about course topics always scheduled.
  Students that couldn't attend the course or that hadn't completed the sketchbook assignment will be requested to pass a graphic test; it is always requested to present a portfolio of the studio assignments and special assignments too and to pass an interview about course topics.
