Learning outcomes
Course contents
1 – PROBABILITY
Random events, uncertainty, axioms of Probability, conditional
probability and Bayes theorem. Discrete and continuous random
variables. Laws of large numbers and Central Limit theorem.
2 – DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS
Data and variable. Description of the observed distribution of a
categorical/quantitative variable. Description of the observed
distribution of two variable and contingency tables. Linear
relationship between two quantitative variables.
Statistical models, population and sampling. Simple random samples and parametric inference. Parameters estimation and confidence intervals. The likelihood function. Testing statistical hypotheses; significance level and p-values. Tests for normal and binomial models. Chi-square test about independence structure for contingency tables. Analysis of Variance.
