Learning outcomes


Course contents

1 – PROBABILITY

Random events, uncertainty, axioms of Probability, conditional probability and Bayes theorem. Discrete and continuous random variables. Laws of large numbers and Central Limit theorem.

2 – DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS
Data and variable. Description of the observed distribution of a categorical/quantitative variable. Description of the observed distribution of two variable and contingency tables. Linear relationship between two quantitative variables.

3- STATISTICAL INFERENCE
Statistical models, population and sampling. Simple random samples and parametric inference. Parameters estimation and confidence intervals. The likelihood function. Testing statistical hypotheses; significance level and p-values. Tests for normal and binomial models. Chi-square test about independence structure for contingency tables. Analysis of Variance.
