Learning outcomes

To provide the students with the fundamental laws of introductory physics and the basic principles in the analysis of experimental data.

Course contents

Kinematics; Newton's laws of dynamics; statics of a rigid body; Kepler's laws and universal gravitation; statics and dynamics of ideal fluids; viscosity; heat and temperature; the ideal gas law; specific heat; the first law of thermodynamics and the conservation of energy; the second law of thermodynamics; entropy; basic principles in the statistical analysis of experimental data; laboratory sessions (measure of the density and the viscosity of a liquid, measure of the specific heat of a solid).
