Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student: - knows the methodological bases of the philology and the linguistic history, with particular reference to the literature; - knows the historical development of the Italian language, of his proposals of regulation and the relapses on the literary language; - possesses the use of the principals useful tools to the evaluation of a literary text; - knows how to approach to the literary document connecting him/it to the cultural and linguistic context in which has been produced, then to the ways of his transmission and receipt, in an interdisciplinary perspective.
Course contents
The program it articulates:1. in an institutional section 2. in
a monographic section or "of research"
-1. Preliminary it will be a guide to the use of the linguistic
tools (dictionaries, grammars, histories of the language and dialects); will follow a short description of the structures of
Italian in the actuality and in the historical development. This
section will have value of address, and it will be care of the
student to complete it with the manuals under recommended.
2. It will follow a first start to the analysis of the language of texts, above all literary, that remains a fundamental exercise for reaching a full understanding of the message. Readings will be proposed therefore, potentially in chronological sequence, starting from the medieval productions that document the formation of the Italian language. The approach to the authors will be mediate from the philological problem list that are at the base of the text, handed down or from the editions of the ancient times, or from the modern critical editions.
Readings/Bibliography
The student can operate his/her choices, also according to the
greatest or smaller frequency to the lessons; in general line, who
has attended in insufficient way (and, particularly,
not presents to the examination the monographic
section), must study a book more in comparison to the
attending students (three books - the not attendings, four).

Teaching methods
- Frontal lessons, with the possibility for the attending students to collaborate; - Reading, analysis, comment of pages, above all literary; - Elaboration of connected hypothesis to the edition and interpretation of the texts.
Assessment methods
A written optional examination, mainly recommended for the
attending students and consistent in the analysis of a literary
text, will be proposed at the end of the lessons, and it
will compete in decisive way to the evaluation of the student. The
criterions of evaluation are: 1 - possession of the disciplinary
competence; 2 - ability to face, to analyze and to resolve new
problems; 3 - correctness and effectiveness of the style of the
exposition. Subsequently, in the days that will be published,
follow the regular oral sessions .
Teaching tools
Everything is useful which helps reading and comprehension.
Written documents, overhead projector, computer projector,
LIM, blackboard and chalk. Audiovisual documents: video
CDs.
For study at home, on-line material on the “Alma DL” site
(amscampus).
The fundamental linguistic study consists of the analysis of
written texts consulting large dictionaries which can mainly take
place in libraries in students' home towns or at the
university.
