Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will have the knowledge and understanding on the definition of manual therapy, theoretical basis of the main Italian and International Schools, indications, limitations and contraindications, methods of functional assessment of the patient and control results.

In addition, the student will know the general principles for the application of manual therapies on joint pathologies and dysfunctions (both inflammatory and degenerative) and particularly in spinal pain.

Finally, the student will know and apply miofascial release using the so-called  "manual pompage" technique.

Course contents

THE ORTHOPAEDIC MANUAL/MANIPULATIVE THERAPY: Therapeutic objectives in Manual Therapy at the level of impairment, disability and participation. The choice of techniques for joints, ligaments, muscles and Nervous System. The choice of the parameters of each manual tehcnique. The concept of the degree of movement and the progression of forces. Traction, translation, mobilization, manipulation: physiological effects, techniques, characteristics, precautions. The construction of a therapeutic session. The conservative treatment of neck pain and low back pain.

MIOFASCIAL TECHNIQUE: Miofascial release using the so-called “Pompage” technique: theoretical basis and treatment techniques. The practical application of " Pompage" technique.

Written exam: 10 multiple choice questions and 5 open-ended questions.

Practical exam: practical simulation of "Pompage" techniques.
