Course contents

Knowledge and skills to be gained

The student masters basic interpreting skills (e.g. sight translation, whispering interpretation (chuhotage), introduction to note-taking) from Italian into Spanish, is proficient in both Italian and Spanish and has very good general knowledge.

Programme/Contents

The course will focus on the development of the student's ability to analyze, understand and reformulate a speech in Spanish.

Also, the course will include a theoretical introduction (false friends, morphosyntactic asymmetries, etc.) and exercises to improve the necessary skills and knowledge.

The classes will focus on current affairs, politics, economics, socio-cultural issues at national and international level, with particular attention to European Union, Spain and Latin America.

On the basis of the texts used for practical exercises, the following aspects will be highlighted:

contrastive analysis of the grammatical, lexical, pragmatic and cultural features of both languages and, within the Spanish language, of the differences between Iberian and Latin American Spanish;

analysis of redundant information and development of synthesis and oral presentation skills;

development of strategies against destabilising factors (such as, for example, speaking rate, statements without cohesion and/or consistency;

targeted exercises for the gradual learning of sight translation, and consecutive and simultaneous interpreting skills.

Classes will be held in Spanish.
