Learning outcomes

The student knows the fundamental elements of the Spanish language and culture, knows the basic problems and strategies of language and culture mediation and can apply them to basic communicative settings, and can understand and produce written and oral texts with relative fluency and naturalness.

Course contents

The contents of the Spanish language and culture module are:

a) acquiring the theoretical and methodological tools to describe and analyse the lexical system of the Spanish language and its use; more specifically, acquiring the competences needed to introduce the student to oral and written communication in Spanish. Starting from a A1 level, students shall be able to interact, knowing the pragmatic rules of communication as well as linguistic courtesy.

b) analysing the grammatical system of the Spanish language in a communicative and contrastive perspective, and analysing the syntax of propositions and sentences;

c) introducing to the critical reading of literary works, as a tool to deepen the knowledge of Spanish and Latin American history and culture.

Teaching tools

The theoretical and practical lessons require the active involvement of students, who shall acquire the grammar, language and cultural contents and the strategies needed tor the professional practice of mediation.
