Learning outcomes

At the end of the course students will know the specific contents of social worker's role as well as the deontological aspects; they will get observation, elaboration and analysis skills of institutional contexts in which social service activities are implemented; they will be able to orient themselves in the specfic work contexts of social service.

Course contents

The course will not only consist on traditional lectures, but also on the following tools:

  • workshops about specific themes of Social Work, with particular attention to Social Worker's intervention areas;
  • meetings between students and coordinators of institutions where practice learning takes place, in order to have an information exchange and combine the purposes of the actors involved in practice learning;
  • some film shows for an analysis on Social Worker's tasks in the current socio-cultural context.

This course stresses the importance of the direct engagement of students in practical activities, under teacher's control and coordination. During the lectures, the teacher will also suggest some bibliographic material.

Teaching methods

Lectures with focus on case studies, practical exercises and group works.

Assessment methods

The examination will consist on an oral talk. The aim is checking whether the student have learned the book contents and if a global and organic view of the course topics has been reached. Students are not required to report mnemonic what he has read but, through a personal language style, they are requested to show they have elaborated and internalized the course topics. Students are also required to promptly answer the questions.
