Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will: - understand the themes, concepts and fundamental principles of international trade law - understand and analyze the elements of practice in order to verify how they operate the main actors of international trade and how their behavior is affected by the law - be able to analyze and understand the main dynamics that characterize international trade relations.

 

Course contents

The course will mainly focus on the following topics:

- European and international antitrust law

- Anti-dumping and trade defense mesures

- Biotechnology and food security

- Foreign investments: sovereign funds, movement of capitals in the EU, international dispute settlements 

- International contracts: models and types.

 - Settlement of international economic disputes.

Readings/Bibliography

The lessons will be essentially based on the analysis of the European and International case law. 

For the part of the course devoted to antitrust, the text of reference will be: Il diritto antitrust dell'Unione europea, a cura di B. Cortese, F. ferraro, P. Manzini, Giappipchelli Ed. 2014, forthcoming.

More materials regarding to the other parts of the course will be distributed to students.

As alternative, reference may be done to Alberto Santa Maria, Diritto Commerciale Europeo (3rd ed.), Giuffrè, 2008.


Teaching methods

The course provides a comprehensive analysis of cases and of the jurisprudence relating to European and international competition law and international contracts. This methodology requires the active participation of students in the classroom.
