Learning outcomes

The course aims to develop the capacity of critical analysis of the territorial issues as social processes, to deal with a governance process, to draft a strategy considering some participatory methods and tools.

Course contents

Course theme: Territorial governance. After an introduction to the theory of geographical complexity, concept of governance and its communicative/participatory tools, history cases and perspectives, will be the focus of the course.

A second part will be focused on governance web communication strategies and tools, such as participatory webGIS (interactive online maps).

Assessment methods

The examination test aims to assess the following learning outcomes: - capacity of mastering terms and concepts relative to territorialisation processes and governance; - capacity of analyzing critically the processes of territorial governance; - to draft a program of a participatory governance path with appropriate methods; - to recognize the functions and applications of WebGIS in the governance processes;
* For students who attend the lectures or a limited group of them, it will be possible to arrange a research team focussing on WebGIS, its applications and languages. 
Attending students will be also encouraged to complete some topics through critical reviews, webGis pages, fieldwork.
The examination tests will be oral, and will take place at the professor's office (nr. 38) at the 2nd floor of the Department of History Cultures and Civilization - Piazza San Giovanni in Monte 2.
To apply for the exam it is necessary to sign up through the electronic bulletin board, according to the deadlines (the list will automatically close the access at the stated deadline, afterwards it will not be accessible). Once signed up, who decides to quit the exam before the deadline, has to cancel the registration otherwise the candidate will have to skip the next exam session.
