This module addresses the contemporary approaches of the
theatrical and choreographic composition. This process can be
investigated from several perspectives: the first is the concept of
figure, as a declination of the role of actor; the second is
the concept of presence on stage, related to the performer's
body together with what is defined as objective presences -
referring to those which are integral part of the stage in the form
of sound, light and other technical stage mechanisms. A third
perspective is represented by the role of the colours, this
is a main aspect in the artistic and performing composition work;
an accurate investigation of this perspective is considered of
paramount importance for a complete understanding of the logic of
view, a core issue of the modern aesthetic research. Through these
perspectives the theatre can interact with the other forms of arts
and artistic devices, like for example the visual arts and sound
generator devices: these connections will be discussed and analysed
within this module. Following the new trends the performance stage
considered as a magnetic field where the dimensions of visible and
invisible, audible and non-audible continuously interact and
complement each other, will lead to the notion of atmospheric
latency as unifying theory. On that basis it is necessary to
focus on a specific dimension of the performance: seen as a
structure composed by infinitesimal variations, integrated by
technological media, influencing the performer and audience
cognition as a subliminal force.

Teaching tools
The module will take into account the theoretical, analytical and critical-operative contributions of both lecturer and students and it will be developed in two cross-related ways: the first part includes lessons on the theoretical part; the second will be developed as a workshop - with direct involvement of the students – and will be dedicated to the analysis of audiovisual material from contemporary theatre using digital technologies – such as the works ofSocietas Raffaello Sanzio, Teatro Valdoca, Teatro delle Albe, Leo de Berardinis, Fanny & Alexander, Masque, Metamkine, Dumb Type, Merce Cunningham, Heiner Goebbels, Jan Fabre, Ginette Laurin, Wayne McGregor, Saburo Teshigawara, William Forsythe.
