Course contents

Name of the course: “Fundamentos históricos de la lengua española” (Historical foundations of the Spanish language)

The course will guide the student in the study of the key events in the history of the Spanish language and it aims at providing the students with a diachronic perspective, which will expand the student's previous knowledge. This course will also develop their critical comprehension of the current status of the Spanish language as a national and international language. Given that all activities will be developed in Spanish, all students must have achieved a C2 level in Spanish according to the

Common European Framework of Reference for Languages i n order to enrol in this course .

Firstly, the topics of the course will be dealt with from an external perspective, that is, through a chronological systematization of the ideological and social factors that have contributed towards the linguistic change of the Spanish language since the days of the School of Translators of Toledo until Spain's multilingual make-up in recent years. Secondly, the linguistic change will be dealt with from an internal perspective, through the analysis of the main events in the evolution of the spelling, the phonetics and the phonology, as well as of the morphosyntax and the lexicon during the different periods of the history of the Spanish language.

PROGRAMA LECTORADO DE HISTORIA DE LA LENGUA ESPAÑOLA

El curso de lectorado se afrontará en dos direcciones:

· Realización de un power point donde se abordarán uno de los temas expuestos en las clases frontales del programa de Historia de la Lengua Española (prof.ssa María José Rodrigo Mora) que tendrán como objetivo ilustrar a través de imágenes y textos abreviados los momentos más significativos de la lengua española desde un punto de vista diacrónico y lineal. Importante será tratar de comprender las distintas situaciones del español dentro del marco histórico de modo que pueda explicar los acontecimientos lingüísticos que se produjeron en una determinada época.

La investigación se realizará a través de Internet y se trabajará por grupos. La exposición tendrá una duración 15 minutos y la prof.ssa María José Rodrigo organizará el calendario de las exposiciones durante el horario de sus clases

· presentación un dossier de artículos referentes a la situación del español actual desde un punto de vista sociolingüístico, de políticas lingüísticas o polémicas en el ámbito nacional y americano que ilustren la situación del español en la actualidad.

Antes de presentarse al examen de la profesora Rodrigo será necesario aprobar la prueba final del lectorado para obtener la idoneidad (Nivel C2 del Marco de Referencia Europeo para las Lenguas).

Assessment methods

The assessment consists of two parts: 1) an oral presentation in class, which can be an individual or a group task, on one of the topics of the syllabus; 2) a written exam about class notes and the compulsory readings.

Teaching tools
