Course contents
The objective of this course is to strengthen and expand the linguistic competences previously acquired, by means of a communicative approach and with a methodical analysis of the mechanisms that regulate the functioning of Spanish – a language which is considered not only synchronically, but also with regard to its historical evolution.
The syllabus is based on:
1. The general characteristics of texts that represent diverse typologies
2. Analysis of speech
3. The diachronic evolution of Spanish and the development of modern Spanish
The course is integrated with annual lectureship exercises.
The exam is based on a discussion regarding the various subjects analysed during the course, the obligatory readings and after having passed the written and oral verification with, the language assistants.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
This course aims to improve and upgrade the speaking and writing skills in Spanish on an advanced level in different situations (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Level C1). Furthermore it aims to improve the translation skills from Italian to Spanish.
TEACHING METHODS
The course will be divided into three parts:
a) acquisition of the advanced skills (Level C1);
b) writing skills;
c) translation
Text: Dominio. Curso de Perfeccionamiento. Nivel C. Dolores Gálvez, Natividad Gálvez y Leonor Quintana Madrid: Editorial Edelsa Grupo Didascalia S.A., Madrid 2007. Grammar and Translation dossiers will be given to the students by a native speaker language trainer. Dominio and other texts will also be used in order to prepare the oral exam.
COURSE CONTENTS
1. Oraciones sustantivas. Locuciones adversativas: pero; sino; si no; sino que 2. Pronombres relativos. Locuciones causales: porque, por qué; por que; porqué 3. Oraciones causales, consecutivas y temporales. Preposiciones y locuciones preposicionales en sentido figurado 4. Oraciones concesivas y finales. Locuciones preposicionales de tiempo y de lugar 5. Oraciones condicionales. Contraste por/para 6. Oraciones comparativas y modales. Valores de SE 7. Estilo indirecto. El género de los nombres 8. Formas no personales del verbo. Formación del diminutivo 9. Perífrasis verbales. Verbos de cambio 10. La voz pasiva. Adverbios terminados en –mente.
ASSESSMENT METHODS
WRITTEN exam
Student shall demonstrate his/her assimilation of the functional, morphosyntactic and semantic contents presented during the course and the acquisition of the advanced skills. Written exam will be held in one day. (First part: grammar; second part: composition; third part: translation).
ORAL exam
All students shall prepare for the oral exam the reading material from Dominio. Curso de Perfeccionamiento. Nivel C. Dolores Gálvez, Natividad Gálvez y Leonor Quintana. Editorial Edelsa Grupo Didascalia S.A., Madrid, 2007 and the other texts indicated by the language trainer at the beginning of the course.
