Learning outcomes
The course will bring to the foundations of Music Education and will lead the first part of introductory character (Key general Pedagogy and Psychology of learning) and a second part of the primarily operational focus on Didactics of listening and learning musical understanding.
Course contents
The course begins Monday, February 13th, 2011 and is held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 3-5 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday, in the Aula del Camino, and 11 a.m.-1p.m. on Tuesday, in the Aula Ferrero.
It's divided in two parts.
In the 1st part (module 1), following topics will be passed in review:
– general issues on General Pedagogics and General Didactics, Psycology of learning;
– general issues on Musical Pedagogy and Didactics of Music;
– the model of Music Education;
– the school plannina and a reading of the “National Curriculum” (Indicazioni per il curricolo, 2007).
The 2nd part (module 2) will be focussed on:
– the Didactics of Listening and Music Appreciation.
The course will involve theoretical presentations as well as practical exercises, guided by tutors.

Teaching methods
Courses are carried out with the collaboration of the research team annexed to the chair of Music Pedagogics.
Assessment methods
In the examination the candidate will have:
1. to report on the Bibliography listed above;
2. to submit a short piece of Western art music and to report as he/she would introduce to it students in a Primary or Secondary School, level I or II (structural as well as functional and contextual understanding): this test is reserved for DAMS/Music students; other students are required to supply only a brief explanation of a piece on the basis of listening (see Recommendations for listening: www.muspe.unibo.it/course/courses/sdm/consigli.htm); in preparing this test, students can ask for assistance by the tutors;
3. to report on a concert of Western art music they have attended recently, situating the works they have listened at into their proper historical framework and providing a critical statement on performing, etc.
Students of the four-year DAMS degree are expected to prepare for exams the whole program.
DAMS/Music students who attend regularly the classes of Music Pedagogics will benefit from a discount (negotiated with the teacher) on the Anthology for the exams of History of Music I or II.
