Learning outcomes

The purpose of the course is: to give an understanding of vascular plant geographic distribution by the models of floristic regions and world plant formations.

Course contents

Introduction: meaning of the words "flora" and "vegetation". The branches and applications of Phytogeography.
Propedeutic topics: cluster analysis and dendrograms, Raunkiaer biological forms and growth forrms. Walter and Lieth climograms.
Floristic Phytogeography: species distribution areas and representation methods, primary ad secondary distribution, disjunctive and vicariant species. Endemic and cosmopolitan species. Geoelements anch chorotypes, chorological spectra. Geographical distribution of the main family of angiosperms and conifers. Floristic kingdoms and regions of holarctic kindom. The flora of Italy. Floristic researches.
Plant formation Phytogeography: vegetation zones and belts in the world. Plant formations and vegetation belts in Italy.
