Course contents

1.      Classification of renal diseases. The kidney and the phosphocalcic metabolism, the idroelettrolitic exchange and the acid-base equilibrium.

2.      Clinical and diagnostic significance of the functional parameter of kidney. Urinary isolated alteration. Glomerular damage.

3.      Nephritic syndrome.

4.      Nephrotic syndrome.

5.      Primary glomerulonephritis.

6.      Secondary glomerulonephritis.

7.      Functional and obstructive acute renal failure.

8.      Organic acute renal failure.

9.      Chronic renal failure.

10.    Interstitial nephropathy and infection of the urinary tract.

11.    Reno-vascular hypertension.

12.    Familiar and hereditary nephropathy.

13.    Vasculities.

14.    Renal replacement therapy.

15.    Renal transplantation. Immunological aspects and follow-up of the transplanted patients.

Teaching methods

The course is made up of a theoretical part which foresees that the lessons deal with the main diseases of nephrological interest. The students will also have the chance to visit the nephrological units during practical lessons in which will be discussed clinical topics to improve clinical skills. The work-placements will be carried out in small groups throughout the course.

Assessment methods

There will be an oral exam.
