Course contents
This language course is designed to help students who already possess an intermediate knowledge (level B1) of English to achieve an Upper Intermediate B2 level (as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - Council of Europe). The course aims to develop and improve the students' use of the correct terminology for a general application in industry and commerce and, at the same time, to provide a good practical preparation for employment within the students' chosen fields.
The course lasts 40 hours and will be followed by a further course for those students wishing to prepare for a TOEFL examination.
Tenses:
- present tenses (revision)
- past simple and present perfect
- the future
- passive forms
Modal verbs:
- to express possibility (could, may, might)
- to express obligation (should, must, need)
Adjectives and adverbs:
- comparative and superlative
- adjectives and common adverbs
Syntax:
- hypothetical phrases (conditional forms 1, 2 and 3) and the their structure

Teaching methods
In order to prepare proficiency tests, the linguistic center (CLIRO) organizes, for those students who already have a certain knowledge of English (B1 Level), blended modules made up as follows:
- Group work (traditional lessons with exercises, activities, grammar and lexical explanations on the basis of all the topics shown on the E-learning Platform)
- Discussion forums to interact on-line with tutors and other students
- Exercises and instructions via the CLIRO E-learning Platform
Assessment methods
Computerised test, in 60 minutes.
Teaching tools
Classes of traditional teacher-students lessons with exercises, activities and grammar and vocabulary explanations (based on the topics contained within the aforementioned text book) supported by computer work and audio-video material.
