Learning outcomes

At the end of the classes students know deeply latin literature, they are able to analyse latin texts with regard to language, style, subject, they understand textual problems referring to latin texts, they use the tools needed for a philological research.

Course contents

Catullus' carmina docta.
(For 6 CFU only c.64).

Readings/Bibliography

Translation and commentary of Catullus 63, 64 and 68 (only 64 for 6CFU).
A complete text of Catullus : see bibliography in italian.
It is recommended another reading (in german, english or french as well), which has to be arranged with the professor: see italian version.

Teaching methods

30 hours of classes for 6 CFU, 60 for 12 CFU, starting from the 2nd of February.

Assessment methods

Oral examination about the text translated in the class, general knowledge of classical philology and history of latin literature in the first century b.C., and the recommended reading.
