Learning outcomes

The teaching aims to help students learn the historical and archaeological context of the Celts in Italy.The reading of the archaeological and linguistic records and the use of historical-literary sources, allow students to understand the documentation studying, within the framework of problems of ancient history and, as regards the field of art,critically evaluate the relationship with the area transalpine.

Course contents

The Celts in Italy. Historical and literary sources on the Celts in Italy. Language and culture of Golasecca. Late hallstatt périod in north-central Italy.Time of
warriors. Migration of the fourth and third century.Senoni, Boii, Cenomani, Insubria. Celticity and "latenization": the peripheral areas,
Alpine eastern valley of the Adige. Art La Tène in Italy, including weapons and parures.The Romanization of the Cisalpine.

- As in previous years are provided for visits to museums, collections, exhibitions, archaeological complexes that are related to the theme of the course.

Teaching methods

The course will be developed through lectures, conferences and guided visits to museums and archaeological exhibitions.

Assessment methods

The oral examination includes checking the quality of knowledge acquired by the student and the evolution of his critical knowledge. A study written on a topic to be discussed with the teacher may be submitted for examination

Teaching tools

The framework of knowledge that is offered to students is built from the archaeological record.Texts, catalogs, web pages relating to archeological sites, museums or exhibitions, can usefully complement the landscape of data outlined in the lessons.
