Course contents

General principles of Pharmacology
Routes of administration of drugs. Pharmacokinetics: the dynamics of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination. Bioavailability of drugs. Pharmacokinetic parameters. Pharmacodynamics: mechanisms of drug action. Drug effects. Drug receptor interaction.
Drugs and sport activities
Drug effects and physical exercies. Therapeutic treatment of injured athlete: correct use of drugs. Relationsipp between efficacy and toxicity of drugs.
Drugs and sport performance. Drug abuse and doping. Substances and methods prohibited list: Stimulants, Narcotics, Cannabinoids, Anabolic Agents, Hormones, Beta-2-Agonists, Alcohol, Diuretics, Glucocorticosteroids, Beta-Blockers. Blood doping.
Action mechanism of doping substances. Toxic effects and health risk of doping. Doping and drug dependence. Doping and sudden death.
World anti-doping agency. The world anti-doping code. International standard and anti-doping test.
Diet supplements and sport performance: analysis of potential health risk.
