Course contents

To be a historian means to observe change and ask how historical language relates to historical reality. In order to achieve the goal of the course, the student must necessarily acquire awareness of interpretative models, fundamental concepts, narrative structures elaborated upon in references to the problem under examination; and must recognize the typologies of sources used by the historiographer in relation to the specific subject of the course.

Beginning of lessons: 24 November 2008 (1rst Semester, Period II)

Time and place of lessons: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 11:00-13:00. Aula Grande, Piazza San Giovanni in Monte 2.

Subject of Course: Revolutions and “Revolution” from the second half of the seventeenth century to the French Revolution

For those students who attend lessons, the plan for the exam will be arranged with the students at the beginning of lessons and will depend upon their ability to read foreign languages.

Teaching methods

The lessons will function as both lecture and seminar.

Assessment methods

For those students who attend lessons, the final exam will consist of either a written report or an oral exam according to the agreements made with the instructor by the end of the course.

For those students who do not attend lessons, the final exam will be an oral exam. The students must demonstrate to have undertaken a deep reading of all the books that constitute the exam program.
