Learning outcomes

The course examines closely some  theoretical approaches to the study of language both in synchronic and diachronic perspective.

Course contents

The course examines in depth the main theories  and explanations of language change, with a view towards comparing and differentiating  the approaches that have emerged in the twentieth century

Teaching methods

Assessment methods

An oral exam will test the deep and detailed knowledge of the topics discussed  during the course and in the mandatory readings of the programme

Teaching tools

  1. A personal computer will be used for video- and audio-files presentation
  2. During each class the teacher will distribute a number of specific materials non easily found
