Course contents


Violence and power in contemporary Africa.
After an introduction to contemporary political anthropology, the course will focus on the political economy of African conflicts and the socio-cultural impact of war.  We will consider the new forms of political order in Africa, such as the warlord system, and the problems related to the humanitarian industry in war zones.

For the exam, the students will have to choose two books from the above list (the ones who do not attend lessons will have to study on three books)
