Learning outcomes
The student should already have the basic knowledge of Plant Biology and General Botany
This class aims to deepen some aspects of Botany with particular interest to plant adaptation to different environmental conditions.
Course contents
Characterization of photosynthetic pigments. Extraction, separation and determination of liposoluble pigments (chlorophylls and caratenoids) in plants grown in the sun and in the shadow. Watersoluble pigments.
Plant senescence and senescence mechanism of flowers and leaves.
Plant osmotico potential. Determination of the medium osmotic potential of vacuoles in plants. Observation of vacuoles in normal and salt stressed plants (plasmolysis).
Plant adaptation to salt stress. Impact of salt contamination of agricultural lands on crop growth and production.
Plant adaptation to water stress. Impact of water stress on crop production.
