Learning outcomes
This course is designed to give students knowledge of the physiologic mechanisms that govern the reproductive system in domestic animals. Emphasis will be on reproductive biotechnology.
Course contents
Reproductive hormones. Ovarian function: folliculogenesis, ovulation and corpus luteum. Female reproductive processes: puberty, estrous cycle, pregnancy and parturition. The mammary gland and lactation. Mammogenesis and galactopoiesis. Milk synthesis and secretion.
Male reproductive processes: spermatogenesis, hormonal control of spermatogenesis, puberty and photoperiod. Reproductive biotechnology: IVM-IVF, embryo culture and sperm sexing.
