44719 - Waterworks and Sewage Systems (Graduate Course)

Academic Year 2008/2009

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LS) in Environmental and Territory Engineering (cod. 0450)

Learning outcomes

Lessons are aimed at giving the student the ability to solve practical problems related to water distribution, sewage and drainage networks. In particular the student will be able to understand which data are necessary and how to collect them, to verify and design the networks and their specific elements.

Course contents

Water distribution networks

Legislation - Drinking waters characteristics - Potable water demand - Networks schemes - Unsteady, gradually varied and permanent  flow in networks - Steady and unsteady simulation models - Water quality models - Water works - Materials

Sewer and drainage networks

Legislation - Statistical description of rainfall - Network schemes - Rainfall runoff models - Flood propagation models - Water quality models - Simplified design methods - Design of first flush and detention ponds structures and pumping plants - No dig and rehabilitation techniques - Overflows environmental impact - Geotechnical and structural aspects.
