- Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Aerospace Engineering (cod. 0207)
Learning outcomes
Starting from the general knowledge of the mechanical behaviour of
the materials, the course sets the goal to understand the
structural behaviour of aerospace vehicles, the materials and the
manufacturing techniques most used.
Course contents
General introduction. Evolution of the requirements, the materials
and the technologies. Structural efficiency and weight
optimisation. Material indices. Metallic materials. Structure and
deformation of polycristalline structures.Elastic-plastic
constitutive law. Alluminium, magnesium and titanium alloys and
steels.Conventional technologies. Polymeric materials.
Visco-elastic and iper-elastic constitutive laws. Technologies.
Composite materials. Elastic-orthotropic constitutive law.
Classical lamination theory. Conventional polymer matrix
composites: continuous and discontinuous reinforcement, matrices,
foams and cores. Conventional technologies: vacuum bagging,
filament winding, pultrusion and thermoforming. Conventional
joining techniques:riveting, welding and bonding. Production
strategies. Non-destructive inspection techniques. Maintenance and
repairing techniques. Quality assurance.

Other books recommended during the lectures
Teaching methods
During the lessons general problems concerning the aeronautical and
aerospace design will be discussed. At the end of the course, a
guided tour at some laboratories will be the occasion for the
student to achieve a more practical view of the arguments discussed
during the lessons.
Assessment methods
The assesment is done by an oral examination .
Teaching tools
Overhead projector, PC, Laboratories.
