Learning outcomes

We are studying about the development of Islamic Civilization, its mark on the arts, skills and knowing on the countries conquered by Islam or in which it spread, the influences inherited from previous artistic traditions and the exchanges with other great cultures.

Course contents

- Starting from the centuries before the origin of Islam and the very beginnign of Arabic expansion, we are going to recover the historical evolution of Islamic culture and art compared to Mediterranean, European and Asian civilizations until the present day.

- The consequential historical development of Islamic Art in all the lands of Islamic influence, including architecture and minor guilds, the spreading influences on all other arts and culture.

Lectures and slides as support.

Teaching tools

Finds, objects, models, photocopies and slides will be organized by the professor during the course. Some extra papers can be asked at the Department Libruary Desk. They are miscellaneous writings and books used during the previous years and can be photocopied.
