Course contents
Basic Legal Principles on Technical Inventions and Trade Marks.
These principles shall be explained through the main EU and International provisions or case law in the proper subject-matter.

Teaching methods
Explanation of the main principles on Patents and Trademarks Law through an oral discussion of the EU and International provisions or case law showed by slides or other on-line free sources.
The explanation and discussion of these principles, provisions and cases in class is aimed to let students improve their knowledge by reasoning and understanding the legal subject-matter rather than learning it by heart or without any critical or applicative approach.
For this reason, full attendance is strongly suggested. Anyway, a 70% presence at least is required.
In case of partial attendance during the same lesson (e.g. one or two hours only), the attendance will be calculated per hour (so, 1/3 or 2/3 ofof the total).

Assessment methods
An oral exam (20-30 min.) shall ascertain the proper and critical knowledge of:
(a) in general, the contents of the basic handbook (see Readings/Bibliography) since not all the subject-matter can be explained or discussed during the lessons (sources, conventions, procedures for registration or patentability, etc.).
(b) in particular, the main principles, provisions and case law discussed and explained during the lessons.
The exam is passed with at least a 18/30 grading.
Because of the first year of this course, the teacher shall ask the students if they also could like an optional written multiple-choice test at the end of the lessons, fully or almost fully alternative to the oral exam. In this case, the test date, hour and place shall be noticed through this website.
