  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Mathematics (cod. 5827)

Learning outcomes

The students are supposed to acquire some advanced knowledge on natural, integer, rational, real and complex numbers, polynomials and polynomial equations,  algebraic structures and to be able to apply them in teaching mathematics  in the secondary school.

Course contents

Natural, integer, rational, real and complex numbers. Algebraic structures in teaching mathematics in the secondary school: monoids, groups, rings, fields. Study of some important examples of groups and rings: isomotries of the euclidean plane and space, diedral groups, quaternions, Gaussian integers. Polynomials and polynomial equations.

Readings/Bibliography

Notes, sheets of exercises distributed during lessons. Some textbooks for the secondary school will be examinated.

Teaching methods

Lectures, exercise sessions, seminars. Sheets of exercises will be handed out during the lecture.

In the office hours students will be coached individually.
