Learning outcomes

M-PSI/05:

By the end of the laboratory course, the student will learn: - how to apply the main theoretical models of community psychology; - the dynamics of groups in social and community contexts.

M-PSI/08:

By the end of the laboratory course the student will learn: - the psychological assessment in relation to the clinical case; - the clinical methology relative to clinical cases.

Course contents

The course is in the first semester (November 2021-January 2022) for the M-PSI/05 Module (Module 1: Community Psychology - Prof.ssa Silvia Moscatelli) and the second semester (March-May 2022) for the M-PSI/08 Module (Clinical Psychology – Module 2/1: Prof.ssa Chiara Ruini; Module 2/2: Prof.ssa Erica Neri).

M-PSI/05

Students will learn how to apply the methods of social psychology with respect to the issues of discrimination and social inclusion of migrants.

The course includes the following activities:

Analysis of the possible psychological outcomes of the migration experience. Examination of possible strategies of prejudice reduction and promotion of social integration, with a focus on the integration of migrant women.

2. Analysis of interventions in various contexts (school, orgnaization, community). Their aims, methods, applicability and effectiveness will be analyzed. Students will learn how to plan an intervention aimed to improve the integration of migrants within specific contexts.

 

M-PSI/08

Module 2/1 Prof.ssa Ruini:

Theories and conceptual basis of psychoeducation and cognitive behavioral therapy; basic behavioral techniques and psychoeducation; assessment and case formulation; clinical interviewing.

Module 2/2 Prof.ssa Neri:

Students will be introduced to the structure of a psychological consultation and to the assessment of problems according to different theoretical models in a biopsychosocial perspective.

The planned activities are the following:

  1. Comparisons between psychodynamic, cognitivist and systemic theoretical models and their use in Clinical Psychology;
  2. Techniques and Exercises on conducting a psychological consultation;
  3. Diagnostic assessment and hypothesis of psychological interventions in a biopsychosocial perspective;
  4. Clinical exemplifications regarding the assessment of attachment in early childhood and adulthood.

Teaching methods

M-PSI/05

In addition to brief lectures, teaching methods will include:

  • Practical exercise in small groups
  • Guided discussions
  • Literature research
  • Presentation and evaluation of a scientific article

M-PSI/08

Theoretical contents will be supported and integrated with: Group work, case presentation and discussion, role playing.

Assessment methods

M-PSI/05

To pass the exam students are requested to:

  • attend classes and participate to discussions
  • participate actively to a group presentation concerning the critical analysis of an intervention
  • contribute to a group presentation concerning the planning of a new intervention

M-PSI/08

Module 2/1:

Final written exam (1 question) based on clinical case formulation, with diagnostic hypothesis and the applications of specific procedures of clinical interviewing

Module 2/2:

Active participation to the laboratory course is essential in order to get admitted to the final examination. The final evaluation will consist in a written exam concerning topics discussed during classes. This final examination will take place during the last class of the laboratory course.
