3. STRATEGIC FORESIGHT LABORATORY: THE SCENARIO AND THE FUTURE OF AUDIOVISUAL CONTENT

Workshop held by Dr. Roberto Cobianchi in collaboration with Professors Veronica Innocenti and Paola Brembilla | From February 9, 2022 to March 9, 2022.

The objective of the laboratory is to imagine possible futures, without the purpose of prediction, but able to stimulate creativity and imagination starting from the collection of news and signals that constitute general and more specific drivers of change. A considerable part of the workshop will therefore be dedicated to the collection, processing and contextualization of information around the theme of change and evolution in the audiovisual sector.

The activity takes place entirely on the TEAMS platform.

2. PODCASTING AND SUSTAINABILITY (CONCLUSO)

Workshop in collaboration with Francesco Locane

The workshop is aimed at students who want to learn more about the processes of pre-production and production of a podcast dealing with sustainability.

The first part of the workshop will deal with topics concerning radio and its evolution, as well as the birth and development of podcasting, from a theoretical and historical point of view. Then we will examine the various meanings of environmental, social and economic sustainability, and their practical reflection in the local context, before moving on to a quick examination of some necessary technical notions related to radio journalism, talking about how to write a text, how to prepare and conduct an interview.

The second part of the workshop, on the other hand, is more practical: it shows how an audio file is recorded, edited and edited, the voices of experts to be interviewed on the topics of the podcast are collected, but also the opinions of ordinary people on the same topics. The materials collected will be examined together and then cut and edited together with the voices of the presenters, the jingles, the theme songs and all the paratextual elements necessary for the production of a podcast. Finally, we will move on to the actual construction of the episodes and their finalisation.

There will be ten meetings of three hours each and working groups of three people will be formed from the first meeting. At the end of the workshop the participants will be able to apply the scheme to create thematic podcasts of various kinds.

Francesco Locane graduated in Communication Sciences from the University of Bologna and worked as an author and presenter at Radio Città del Capo from 2001 to 2017, covering cinema, music, literature and environmental issues. He has taught writing courses for radio, cinema and theatre, teaching at IULM in Milan and in various high schools throughout Italy. He currently works as an author, writer, copywriter and translator for several national and international companies.

1. EDITING IN CRIME FILMS (CONCLUSO)

Workshop in collaboration with Mattia Biancucci

The workshop is aimed at students interested in audiovisual editing and its dynamics, with reference to the short film format and the crime genre. A first section (4 hours) will provide an introduction to the production and distribution aspects of short films in order to define their role and impact within the film industry.

The second section (6 hours) will focus on the analysis of some case studies (short films and crime films) with the aim of identifying the function of editing in the construction of causes/effects typical of the crime genre. By comparing the proposed sequences, the aim is to highlight the different approach with which the narrative elements of the crime genre can be developed and connected.

The last section (20 hours) involves putting into practice the notions discussed and developed previously. The students - divided into three groups - will have access to the entire footage of a short film from which they will have to make three 15-minute versions.

Each group will go through the following stages: selection of the footage by comparing the takes of each scene, editing of the individual scenes and subsequent construction of the whole short film, editing of the sound effects and music and finalisation of the work. At the end of the workshop, students will be able to manage a basic workflow of an audiovisual project using Adobe Premiere software and will have acquired some theoretical and technical tools to critically elaborate on the role and potential of editing.

Enrolment procedure: send an e-mail to the address: dar.spaziocinema@unibo.it indicating in the subject "request for enrolment in the workshop The editing in crime cinema", specifying: Name/surname, matriculation number, telephone number. The first 12 students to apply will be admitted.

Teaching methods

All the courses offered by the MULTIMEDIA AND AUDIOVISUAL LABORATORY (2) (LM) (G.D) are based on a participative teaching method, aimed at stimulating students' creativity and their ability to learn about technical and specific issues. Practical exercises with the help of DAMSLab's technical staff are planned for some of the workshops. Some of the proposed itineraries may include hours of outdoor research and practice (e.g. research online, in archives, libraries, on site; filming...).

NOTE 1: Due to the current health emergency, it is possible that the teaching methods will change in the coming months. In this case, timely notice will be given through notices published on the teaching page, on the CITEM Degree Course website (https://corsi.unibo.it/magistrale/Cinema ) and on the official FB page of the CITEM Degree Course (https://www.facebook.com/Unibo.Citem/), which all students are invited to consult periodically.
