82264 - Formes De Mediation

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, students will be able to read, report, and discuss papers or texts related to the social and political sciences in the French language, using lexicon and syntax at a minimum level of B1, and an ideal level of at least B2, according to the Council of Europe Framework. Moreover, students must be able to write and organize a brief text, using at least B2 level lexicon and syntax.

Course contents

The course will consist of two parts:

Part 1: students will focus on the concept of representation in view of the encounter of different cultures. Intercultural mediation is particularly developed in contexts where the encounter/conflict between different cultures and languages produces various and original types of mediation. Therefore, the French-speaking context is chosen in order to encourage students to recognize the linguistic and cultural elements characterizing the types of mediation experiences analyzed.

Part 2: Students will consolidate and improve the skills of comprehension and production of French language.

Due to the difficulties due to the COVID-19 emergency, the program has been modified as follows.
The test will consist of an oral exam. The test will take place on Microsoft Teams. Students will have to show an identity document.
The student will study two issues of the Urbanités magazine (issue 12 | 2019 and issue 13 | 2020), available online (see below). Each issue contains about 10 articles: all will be examined. The student will be questioned in French on the content of the articles.

Attention: the last session to take the exam with this program and with Professor Funari is the session of January 2021.

ATTENDING STUDENTS:

Oral exam aiming at evaluating the student’s skills of comprehension and production of French language. The student must answer questions regarding the content and the linguistic and grammatical level of a text among those available on IOL in the "Textes pour travail individuel" section. It will be evaluated the linguistic and grammatical knowledge acquired, as well as the theoretical knowledge (starting from the texts available on the ppt slides).

NON ATTENDING STUDENTS

The student must be able to

1. read witth the correct prononciation
2. explain vocabulary (meaning of specific terms and idiomatic expressions)
3. answer questions on understanding the text (knowing how to reformulate or summarize some passages of the text)
4. answer questions on grammar (conjugate the verbs present in the article; put some of the sentences in the negative / passive form; be able to formulate questions correct interrogative form; know the use of pronouns and adjectives: possessive, demonstrative, indefinite, interrogative)
