Learning outcomes

The student should know the different organizational models, the way to organize them and the role of the IT. The student should even know how to diagnostic and find positive solutions in cases of failure of the organizational systems. The student should even know the main elements of the retribution and of work contracts.

- Introduction to the concept of organization and organizational rationality - The Xerox Corporation case - The Mattel Inc. case -The history of theories on business organization (outline) - Work organization: general concepts - Taylorism and scientific management - The informal organization and the line of human relations - The study of motivation - The planning of the tasks - Interdependence and coordination - Organizational planning according to Mintzberg - Technological contingentism - Environmental contingentism - Herbert Simon's approach - The organizational evaluation - The border units - The human variable - The negotiation of incentives and contributions - Discretion - Exercises and business cases discussed in class
