Academic Year 2014/2015

  • Docente: Diego Masotti
  • Credits: 3
  • SSD: ING-INF/02
  • Language: English
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Telecommunications Engineering (cod. 0932)

Learning outcomes

Knowledge of the methods for the numerical solution of electromagnetic problems and their application to the analysis and design of modern radio systems, such as RFID tags and RF energy harvesters. Intensive laboratory activity consisting in the use of commercial tools for the modelling of typical RF subsystems.

Course contents

The course outlines the application of electromagnetic analysis to the simulation of RF and microwave devices, circuits and subsystems, including antennas, transmitters and receivers up to the front-end level. The main features of numerical tools implementing electromagnetic analysis are compared to those of traditional circuit analysis programs. A large part of the course consists in laboratory sessions during which students can use commercially available (circuit and electromagnetic) tools to design/simulate some up-to-date examples of technical interest. Special emphasis will be placed on situations where circuit analysis is not enough accurate to predict the actual behaviour of the structures under consideration.
