B5992 - Didattica della filosofia (modulo c: pensiero moderno e contemporaneo)

Academic Year 2023/2024

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Percorso abilitante in A018 - Filosofia e Scienze Umane (cod. 6072)

Learning outcomes

The course provides basic tools for planning and organising the teaching of historical-philosophical disciplines (ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary thought). The study of the topics is intended to facilitate the critical ability to select secondary bibliography (textbooks and anthologies) and to identify transversal topics through the reading and commentary of philosophical texts.

Course contents

Conveying the importance of the history of philosophical thought to students is not possible without appreciating its richness. Studying the history of modern and contemporary philosophy means first and foremost having the opportunity to read, discuss, explain and comment on many writings in which reflections and analyses on man, knowledge, emotions, nature, society, culture and history have been deposited over the centuries. Why can't that heritage be abandoned? What meaning does it take on in the present time? Each teacher will have to find his or her own answer to these questions and then propose it in the classroom.
The contribution that university teaching can make to the elaboration of such an answer remains essentially of a formative nature. In the course of the module some specific problems of the modern and contemporary philosophical debate (the relationship between subject and nature and the relationship between reason and history) will be compared with the different historical periods in which they have found different declinations, their outlines will be sketched through the commentary of some texts and they will be considered in relation to the historiographical debate that has arisen around them.

This didactic proposal will be offered to try to develop a collective discussion on the nexus between philosophy and the history of philosophy and on the latter's own methodology of investigation, in the conviction that study, updating and confrontation represent not only the tools through which the teacher trains himself, but can also constitute a sort of ‘habit’ to be transmitted to students in order to think and live in the contemporary world. For the university teacher of the history of philosophy, on the other hand, training and confrontation with high school teachers can be an opportunity to re-examine the meaning of the link between scientific research and teaching.

Readings/Bibliography

A selection of texts to be discussed during the lecture will be made available by the teacher.

Teaching methods

The five hours of teaching involve alternating moments of lectures, seminar discussion and shared reading of philosophical texts.
