Learning outcomes
At the end of the module, participants are expected to acquire the ability to prepare a standard lecture at the secondary education level, in which the philosophy of science is presented as a philosophical discipline and some general topics related to this field are introduced and discussed.
Course contents
The first part of the course will be dedicated to an introduction to the discipline Philosophy of Science. In particular, the following questions will be examined: What do we mean by philosophical research that focuses on science? When did this philosophical research begin? What philosophical and scientific tools does the discipline Philosophy of science make use of? What do we mean by 'science' and 'non-science' (demarcation problem)? Through the presentation and discussion of some philosophy of science texts and examples taken from scientific practice, these questions will be addressed, and a way to introduce and analyze such issues at the secondary education level will be provided.
In the second part of the course, some general topics related to the philosophy of science will be addressed: realism and anti-realism, scientific explanation, and modeling in the sciences. The aim is to provide a basic understanding of topics central to contemporary philosophy of science, which can be useful for further exploration in class. As in the first part, philosophy of science texts and examples taken from scientific practice will be used to provide future teachers with useful tools for organizing classroom activities.

A selection of texts to be discussed during the lesson will be provided by the teacher.
