Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student would acquire: 

- a good knowledge regarding the main topics and problems in the history of musical aesthetics;

- the capability of contextualizing and critically reading the basic text of the discipline, regarding terminology, arguments, and the major cultural trends of the corresponding historical periods.

Course contents

I module

Themes and problems of the musical aesthetics in XIX and XX century.

II module

Wagner's Dramaturgy in Theory and Practice.

Students interested to the 6 cfu course should study only the bibliography for the I module (see below).

In order to follow properly the II module program, a good preliminary knowledge of Wagner's main output is strongly recommended.
