Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will know the Roman history of the republican age. He will read documents and texts of this historical period in the original languages. He will analyse them in historical perspective. He will apply the research methodologies in the field of historical studies on the Roman world and on the provinces of the republican age. He will able to approach historical research autonomously.

Course contents

The course wants to help students to acquire knowledges and correct methodologies of research in the field of roman history of archaic and republican age.
Title of the course: Rome and the two Italies: lines of confrontation.

Teaching methods

Classroom-taught lesson.

Assessment methods

The exam is an oral one. The interview is meant to evaluate the discriminatory ability and the methodological approach of the student, who is encouraged to face the set of problems presented in the course. Student's approach to ancient sources and bibliographical material will be examined in detail, considering the aspects and the cultural environment of the discipline. Such capabilities, if combined with a verbal fluency and a correct use of language, will be rewarded with excellent marks. In conformity with this evaluation, lesser levels of thought, analysis or language will result in gradually worse grades. It is evident that omissions or errors in the knowledge and an improper speech shall be considered negatively.
