Learning outcomes
The aim of this very practical course is to provide a thorough knowledge of the financial theory behind valuation of firms and securities as well as to examine how this can be applied to real life examples. Theories relating to capital budgeting and corporate financing will be discussed. At the end of the teaching period students will be equipped with knowledge on how firms best finance their activities and operations, on the risks involved and on financial markets workings.
Course contents
The course contents include:
Analysis of securities issued by public companies
Trade off between costs and benefits of issuing different securities
Company valuations
Company risks and risk management
International risks
Derivatives, definition and valuation models
Readings/Bibliography
Principles of Corporate Finance, by Brealey, Myers and Allen, 11th edizione, McGraw Hill
Teaching methods
Lessons on theory and case studies will be provided, together with workshops where questions and practical problems will be presented and where students are expected to work in groups and contribute to the discussion
Assessment methods
End of term project and presentation, to be carried out in groups and presented in English

end of term written exam
Teaching tools
Additional case studies from other textbooks will be presented, together with articles from the financial press and academic journals.
Internet will be used to show and discuss up to date events in the Financial field
