POETRY AND MUSIC IN THE ITALIAN LITERATURE

Poetry and music are two fundamental structures of the Italian literary tradition, although their dialogue has not always been evident and preponderant. The reflection and implementation of both poetic and musical principles constituted an endless and essential connection for understanding the literary and stylistic trends from the 13thcentury literature until the 20th century one, which is the main field of investigation of this course. More properly, as for the 20th century, the course will focus on some exemplary cases that effectively and significantly illustrate different approaches and solutions to the question of poetry and music, i.e.: Ungaretti and Nono, Berio and Calvino, Balestrini and Stratos. They represent different generations, but also a comparison of different expressive spaces that suggest the magnitude and importance of a relationship which has not often received the necessary attention.
